Radiant Floor Heat
There’s no doubt that radiant floor heating is one of the best ways to heat your home or business.

I’ve lived with radiant floor heat in my home for the last 10 years and I can tell you, there’s nothing like stepping on a warm floor with bare feet.Another benefit of radiant floor heating is it’s hidden and takes up no floor space. This allows the placement of furniture without the restrictions caused by radiators and baseboard heating systems. In order to enjoy the benefits floor heating you need to be aware of some of the problems related to floor heating systems: - Failure to provide enough heat on a very cold day
- Out-of-control room temperature variations
- Damage to wood floors
- Potential damage to the heating boiler
Using good design and installation practices can ensure you’ll avoid these problems. Some companies tout the energy saving derived from using radiant floor heat. I do believe there are energy savings using radiant heat but I also think some of the claims are over-rated. It all depends on the application. For instance, a warehouse with 25- 30 foot ceilings and large overhead doors, radiant floor heat has large energy savings potential vs. the use of fan-forced heating. On the other hand a house with 8 foot ceilings would not realize substantial energy savings. If you are a homeowner who is considering in-floor heating, base your buying decision on comfort and convenience rather than energy savings. There’s more to saving energy than a radiant heat system. Floor heating can be installed in older existing homes as well as new construction. Some of the methods are: - Embedded tubing in concrete
- On top of the sub floor
- Below the sub floor
- Ceiling and wall heating
- Hot water or electric floor heat
The method you choose depends on accessibility and heating design parameters. For a more detailed look at radiant floor heating, SIGN UP FOR THE FREE REPORT - GUIDE TO A SUCCESSFUL RADIANT HEAT SYSTEM
