"Home Heating Alternatives"

There are a variety of home heating alternatives to choose from today.

Most are chosen based on geographic location, fuel availability, fuel costs and one’s lifestyle.

Forced air heating systems are the most popular of systems in the U.S.

Modern hydronic heating systems (hot water) are more popular in the colder regions of the U.S. and are the predominant choice in Europe.

Under floor radiant heat systems (a form of hydronic heating) are gaining popularity in many homes.

Another alternative worth looking at is a hydro-air or hybrid system.

These system are a combination hot water/forced air. We have installed many of these with great results.

The first thing our customers notice is how comfortable the feel.

Geothermal heat pump systems, long considered an alternative energy system are now becoming part of the mainstream.

These systems use the same technology as a refrigerator.

One nice thing about geothermal is you don't have to have a fuel in your home because they are powered by electricity.

Fuel types that are available are:

  • natural gas
  • fuel oil
  • propane (LP)
  • electricity
  • solar

A good professional can help you choose the right fuel by performing a cost analysis of each fuel.

Solar heating and water heating are now being promoted because of escalating fuel prices and the environmental impact of fossil fuels.

Solar heating may not make much sense in some parts of the country based on return on investment.

Again, a competent heating contractor should help you determine the best bang for your buck.

As you can see, there are myriad options available today.

Each of these have their place, depending on one’s needs.

The choice is yours!
