Energy Efficient House Design
Please Read This First!
- Insulation alone does not make a home energy efficient
- Installation of a 90% efficient furnaces sometimes deliver only 60% efficiency
- Installation of 95% efficient boilers sometimes deliver only 80% efficiency
- Most central humidifiers are unnecessary and, in fact do more harm than good
- Heat and energy recovery ventilators (HRV’s & ERV’s) can actually increase heating costs instead of reducing them
- Poorly designed radiant floor heat systems can under-heat and over-heat rooms and/or ruin flooring
- Poorly integrated HVAC and water heating systems leads to unnecessary redundancies, increased safety risk and inefficient operation
- Many indoor air quality systems have little or no effect, while others pose risks to safety and health
- Failure to adopt a “Whole House Approach” leads to compromised comfort, health, safety and energy efficiency
